While single-cell sequencing became simpler and cheaper, spatial transcriptomics moved in a different direction. Instead of focusing on speed and cost, spatial transcriptomics technologies increased resolution, added protein measurements, and began moving into three-dimensional (3D) tissue mapping.

2025 was also a year of collaboration, with new partnerships and large-scale initiatives aimed at building shared spatial resources and tissue atlases.
