Surprise, surprise...it is not 10x Genomics!
What I saw at the Festival of Genomics and Biodata, London
Last January, I was invited to lead workshops and panels of discussion about single-cell and spatial transcriptomics at the Festival of Genomics. Many attendees asked us for our opinions about the legal issues between companies selling spatial transcriptomics technology. They were mostly concerned about how to freely choose the best technology without future legal barriers.
After that, I wandered around and checked out the various booths to learn about new technologies. And guess what? There are some exciting things on the horizon. But that's a story for another blog post. Today I want to tell you what happened when I reached booth #124. I think that this was my reaction 👇🏻
What did I see? This 👇🏻

And after this 👇🏻
And here's the twist: for a brief moment, my brain and eyes weren't on the same page.
My brain was shouting "10x Genomics, Chromium Controller," but my eyes were seeing "SeekGene, SeekOne® Digital Droplet System (SeekOne®DD System)." So, who was correct? My eyes were.
If you're familiar with 10x Genomics technology, you'll get what I'm saying. If not, just search "Chromium Controller (images)" and "10x Genomics droplet mechanism" on Google.
SeekGene
Beijing SeekGene BioSciences Co., Ltd. is a company that develops microwell chips and digital droplet platforms. They aim to simplify the use of single-cell technology for scientists worldwide. Their website features a comprehensive single-cell product line, end-to-end.
Some of their products include:
Sample storage: SeekMate® Sample Storage Solution (information not available)
Tissue Dissociation: SeekMate® Tissue Dissociation Kit
Cell Counter: SeekMate® Cell Counter
Single cell partition , labelling, and library construction: SeekOneDigital
Droplet System (SeekOne®DD)
Single cell kits: SeekOne® DD High throughput Single Cell Full-length RNA Sequence Transcriptome-seq (scFAST-seq); SeekOne® DD Single Cell 3' Transcriptome-seq and; SeekOne® DD single-cell immune profiling;
Bioinformatic analysis: SeekSoulTools
You might be wondering about the differences between this technology and 10xGenomics. Are SeekGene products available in Europe and the USA? Are there any legal issues? I've asked all these questions and more. And guess what? I hope to have the answers after my meeting with the SeekGene representative at the end of the month. I'll be sure to share their responses in future blog posts or even a podcast. So, stay tuned! 😉
Thanks for reading.❤️
